Renaud
Mrs. Dubuque's Second Grade Class PDF Print E-mail

My name is Megan Dubuque, I was married in September so you may previously know me as Megan Renaud. I graduated from Lyndon State College with my endorsement in elementary education. I am currently in a master's of education program at Antioch University. I am entering my fourth year of teaching and my third year teaching here at BES.

January

This month we will be working on a social Studies unit about communities. We will learn about community wants and needs, what makes a strong community, and ways to work in a community. We will also be practicing writing our address and phone number. We will brainstorm a list of the buildings in our community and classify them as providing education, services or recreation. I will be creating a map of our local community and we will add these buildings and houses on the map.

Students will also be writing in their homemade writing journals. Our focus this month is to add more details and proper punctuation to our writing.

In math we are practicing place value and data collection and analysis.

December

After reading The Night Tree by Eve Bunting, second graders had the opportunity to string food for the birds and animals and they made their very own night tree here at BES. We strung fruit loops, bread, berries, and popcorn as well as sprinkled bird seed on the ground for the animals. After we decorated our tree we took the chance to have a little fun in the snow.

November

This month we will be learning about matter in science. We will learn the 3 forms of matter; gas, liquid, and solid, and we will sort objects based on these forms. Students will have the opportunity to investigate what happens to certain forms of matter when they are changed, either by force or temperature.

In math we are practicing our problem solving skills. The students are using their own favorite strategies to solve the problem. They are practicing making their thinking clear in their math work.

September

This is a very busy month for us. We will visit low forest as a connection to our unit on life cycles. We will be looking through rotting logs to find the different stages of a tree as well as the decomposers responsible for these changes. We will capture the decomposers and study them for a few minutes before letting them go.
