January and February

We continued our study of earth materials. We used 3 different size screens to sort a sample of river rocks into dishes of pebbles, gravel and sand. Then we glued samples of the sizes to our recording sheets.

Our math unit was all about collecting, sorting and recording data. Here we are using different materials to show how we would sort and represent the answers to the question: What is your favorite winter activity?

After reading The Snow Child by Freya Littledale, we painted our own snow child in the style of Barbara LaVallee, the illustrator. Then we wrote a summary of the story and told about our favorite part.

We celebrated the 100th day on February 10th with some fun activities. One was to count out 100 classroom objects to see how far they would reach.

Our school collected an amazing amount of pennies for the Pennies for Peace program. It helps build schools for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The fifth graders came to help us roll some of the pennies. We worked hard - 2 rolls make a dollar!
