Mrs. Sciortino
Fourth Grade

Hi, my name is Lynn Sciortino. I am so excited to start another year here at BES. This is my 15th year teaching fourth grade. Before that I taught first or second grade. Over the summer I took a class called Responsive Classroom II so I am really looking forward to putting some of those practices into place this year.

We've been working hard on the first unit in Investigations (our new math program). It's all about factors, multiples and arrays. Our next unit in math has been all about data collection. Boys and girls have been collecting data about their heights and the heights of first graders. We've also graphed data on the number of cavities the typical 4th grader has. We went to the link below called National Library of Virtual Manipulatives and created a graph using a program called Bar Charts.

The students are very excited about the upcoming election and will vote soon for the candidate of their choice.

Red Ribbon Week has been full of fun and excitement. We've made healthy snacks and have talked a lot about making healthy choices.

In social studies, we are learning all about Vermont. Here's a picture of Sarah Copeland Hanzas discussing state government with 4th graders at a recent visit.
