Every fall all our students in grades 3-6 are tested using the NECAP statewide test. We have just received the results which will be mailed to parents today. We did recognize those 43 students who performed above grade level today at assembly. In addition we honored those 50 students who documented at least 1 year's growth in math and the 41 who improved a full grade level in reading. We felt it is important to recognize the hard work these students put forth even if they are not in the top level of their class. If you have any questions about your child's results please give us a call.

PTO MEETING- DATE CHANGED
PTO meeting Monday, February 15 at 6:30 PM
BOOK SWAP IS COMING
February is I LOVE TO READ and WRITE month and we certainly want to do everything we can to keep the interest level high. As part of that effort we are holding a book swap event next Friday. Students can bring in used books in good condition and take home new ones. If they bring in 2 or 3 they take that many home. We think it is a great way to encourage reading over vacation. Thanks for your help and support.
LOST AND FOUND
Our lost and found table, located in the back entrance as you enter the main hallway, is overflowing with clothing that has been left here at school. Please label your child's clothing so we can return articles to their rightful owner.
SCHOOL CHARTER CHANGE
The Board of Trustees of our school are investigating the merits of changing our unique tax status. Most town governments in Vermont collect school taxes and provide the funds to run the school. When the Bradford Academy and Graded School District was incorporated in 1893 it had the authority to collect its own taxes. Only a few schools still continue this process. The Selectboard and the Trustees have charged a committee to investigate the pros and cons of such a change. We hope to have parents involved in this process.
If you are interested in serving on the committee please contact Jessica Bean, Administrative Assistant at (802) 222-4727 ext. 304 or email

SOLAR GRANT FOR BES
In January of 2010, Bradford Elementary School (BES) was awarded a $50,000 US Department of Energy grant to place solar hot water and PV panels on our roof and begin to investigate and learn about renewable energy. Our vision is to show the students the power of the sun and monitor how energy can be produced renewably. The students will monitor the electricity production, the CO2 saved and the economic benefits to the community. The installation will be done by the Electronic Technology/Residential Wiring students at River Bend Career & Technical Center (RBCTC) at Oxbow High School and will expose them to a new and growing avenue of green jobs. This project is just the latest step the school has taken towards creating a environmentally aware and engaged student who is developing green habits for a lifetime while fulfilling the demands of Vermont's science curriculum.

NOTE FROM BRADFORD YOUTH SPORTS
Although we greatly appreciate the fan support, we do not allow unaccompanied children at youth sports events. We graciously ask that an adult accompany and take responsibility for their children at all games or that the children do not attend. We also ask that parents remind their children to be respectful of the gym, other fans and the equipment. We need to leave the gymnastic mats alone and not bounce balls or play in the lobby area. The school extends BYS the courtesy of having first rights to the use of the gym, and we in no way want to jeopardize this privilege. Thank you, BYS Board.
