Dear Parents, There were lots of smiles yesterday as children had their pictures snapped. Packets of pictures will be processed within a few weeks. We will schedule a make-up day at that time for anyone who is not completely satisfied with their child's picture. Class pictures will be available for every child, but they will not be processed until after retakes are done.
HAPPENINGS THIS WEEK Early in the week second graders participated in a butterfly walk. On Thursday third graders visited Low St. John Forest for a field trip. On Friday the 4-6th grades had morning assembly. Third graders husked 20 dozen ears of corn- 10 dozen went in the freezer and 10 dozen were served at lunch on Thursday- and thank you to the families that picked the corn last Saturday!

HARVEST FESTIVAL-SAVE THE DATE Tuesday, September 29th we will celebrate the change of seasons with a Harvest Dinner from 5:00- 6:00 p.m. The success of our spring picnic inspired us to try a fall celebration. We will provide fresh corn chowder for everyone, made from corn picked at Harkdale Farm, and families should bring the rest of their fixin's, along with a blanket or folding chairs. Part of our program that night will be a presentation about our plans to keep our school community healthy during the upcoming flu season. As one part of our efforts we will have thermometers available for families through a generous donation from Kinney Drugs.

DENTAL SCREENINGS Families received information about the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile School Dental Screening Program. A dental van will be coming to BES October 19th to start seeing kids who need a cleaning or have a cavity that needs filling. Please complete the forms that were sent home. You may send the forms directly to the Care Mobile or return them to school. If you have any questions please call Susie Tann, our school nurse, at extension 226. BES PTO We had a good discussion at the PTO meeting Monday night as we talked about ways home and school can support each other through the challenges of raising children in today's world. There will be programs based on curriculum (math, reading, writing), safety (internet, H1N1) and some events just for fun (Halloween party). The only fundraiser the PTO has had over the past several years has been the sale of the birthday calendar. We had a group picture taken of the student body this week for the calendar. We hope every family can sign up for a calendar and list the family birthdays and anniversary. It is a great value for $5. Thanks for your support. An order form is going home this week. Please return the form with payment to the office. ?'s Email Sonya at
